Leading Cause of Death
Vehicle crashes are the No. 1 one killer of teenagers in America, claiming more than 7,000 lives each year. Crash rates are highest during a teen’s first few months on the road. In fact, a 16-year-old driver is 10 times more likely to be involved in a crash than an adult.

Driving Skills for Life (Ford) - Getting there Safely
We spend time driving each day traveling to our various destinations; from the daily commute to work and short trips to our favorite restaurant or store. Sometimes we take longer trips to a friends or relatives house, or maybe to a weekend get-a-way location. Are we doing everything we can do reduce the number of crashes on the roadways? Make it your goal to get there safely by not being distracted while driving. Don't allow yourself to copy the risky behaviors that some drivers are performing while driving.
Please follow the advice provided from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), and Ford Driving Skills for Life - Training Modules. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
Driving Safely is Living Safely - Safety is NHTSA’s number one priority. Our mission is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s roadways by getting drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to change their behaviors once they get behind the wheel or on the streets. High-visibility campaigns, supported by state and national advertising help us achieve our mission.

To help safeguard law enforcement officers, emergency responders, road maintenance workers, and others who work on the side of highways, Wisconsin has a "Move Over Law."
The Alcohol Factor
Raising the minimum drinking age to 21 has saved 20,970 lives since 1975. Still, alcohol use remains a huge problem among teens. In 2001, 25 percent of 15-to-20 year olds who were killed in crashes were intoxicated.

Recognizing work zones
Each year in Wisconsin, both highway workers and motorists are killed and injured in crashes that happen in highway construction zones.
Major road construction that lasts for weeks and weeks. Emergency vehicles at the side of the road. A snowplow flashing its warning lights. The everyday garbage pickup. In Wisconsin, they’re all work zones.
Any time people are working in a street or highway near traffic, drivers and workers are at risk. Being able to identify the work zones up ahead can save lives. So learn the signs of a work zone: flashing lights, utility or emergency vehicles, orange signs, flags, barrels and cones.
And, of course, people.
